$2.3 million Adventure Forest set to open at Children’s Museum of Denver

The Adventure Forest at the Children’s Museum opens June 3rd to the public. (Helen H. Richardson, The Denver Post) Why aspire to immersion when you can immerse yourself in a spire? Climbing to the top of Adventure Forest, a $2.3 million new play structure and obstacle course visible from Interstate 25 in downtown Denver, demands physical exertion, coordination and more than a little daring. That’s not exactly standard for immersive experiences — those trendy saviors of staid leisure activity that are increasingly taking the hospitality and museum world by storm — but it’s worth the effort to reach the top for a 360-degree view of the Denver skyline and the Front Range (plus the mouth-agape parents on the ground beneath). “That’s the best part,” said Mike Yankovich, museum president and CEO of the Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus. “I just love going up there and hanging out.” While most new, art-driven experiences are following the trail blazed by Santa Fe-based art company Meow Wolf — which drops visitors into fantastical, color-splashed, interactive environments and invites them to play — the Children’s Museum is making kids work for it.
