It was a way to put money in her pocket while spending time with friends. Though being the owner’s daughter didn’t afford her special treatment. “My manager made me answer the phones to take call-in orders, and I was petrified," said Specht. Now the company’s CEO, Specht smiles as she recounts the story in her office at Cousins headquarters in Menomonee Falls. The facility includes a full test kitchen with a working register and digital menu boards. Just around the corner from the test kitchen, things turn toward the historic. A hand-painted, wooden panel runs nearly the length of the hall, advertising prices not seen since the ’70s. The first Cousins menu displays, created by a Milwaukee artist, hang nearby.
