(Photo: Submitted) WAYNESBORO – Did you see that large mural in Waynesboro by the South River just kind of pop up overnight? You aren’t imagining things. Thanks to the Virginia Street Arts Festival held this past weekend, two structures in the city saw some new art. Muralist Nils Westergard was tapped to do a large piece on the old Ice Plant building in Waynesboro, which is adjacent to Constitution Park and visible from Main Street. Spoiler alert: he painted half that mural with a large pole. Another piece on Race Avenue was done by artist Julia Chon of Kimchi Juice LLC. Westergard is a Richmond-based artist. You’ve probably seen his stuff throughout Richmond. The city is home to more than 100 murals part of the Richmond Mural Project, and Westergard has a good number of them. His work has been featured worldwide, including on the walls of London, Prague, Berlin, the Hague, Belgium and the Czech Republic — and in past Virginia Street Arts Festivals.
