Horse power: Artist-blacksmith Holly Fisher channels love of horses into precious metal

Artist-blacksmith Holly Fisher transforms hot metal into art at her shop in Mounds. Holly Fisher’s horse, Buck, provides inspiration the blacksmith and artist who is based in Mounds. MOUNDS — Holly Fisher has a question for you: “Who doesn’t want to hammer on hot metal? Really, who doesn’t?” Fisher is an artist-blacksmith who creates metalwork and teaches out of her shop (Flying Anvil Forge) in Mounds. She said people have referred to blacksmithing as a dying art. Cue the Mark Twain quote about reports of his demise being greatly exaggerated. “There are a lot of good ornamental and architectural blacksmiths out there making a living from what they do,” Fisher said. “The art form is definitely flourishing I would say.” Fisher’s art will be on display at City Hall Gallery at 6 N. Adair Street in Pryor. She’ll be present for a 2-4 p.m. opening March 3 and the exhibit will remain at the facility through March 15.
