A house for sale in Riverside has a rare, if not unique, feature for Chicago-area homes: It sits atop a two-stall boathouse on the Des Plaines River. Many homes in the city and suburbs have river frontage. Few, if any, others can claim to have boat storage directly underneath, other than the twin towers of Marina City on the Chicago River downtown. This house on Maplewood Road is a three-bedroom, 4,640-square-footer built in the late 1990s on top of a century-old boathouse that originated as part of a larger estate. Because it sits on a curve in the river and the opposite bank is Cook County Forest Preserve land running several miles north and south, “from every room in the house except two bathrooms, we have views of the river,” said Jeff Baron, who built the house in the late 1990s with his now-deceased wife and listed it for sale at $1.5 million on Saturday. “We see otters, beavers, deer, foxes, coyotes.” The house is 14 miles from downtown Chicago. “You walk in and it’s so peaceful with the river all around you,” said listing agent Rory Dominick, who’s with Keller Williams Chicago-O’Hare. “You wouldn’t know you’re in the […]
