Pomona has found its resident artists, set plans for two murals

Pomona Cultural Arts Commission is seeking proposals from its list of pre-approved artists for a mural located on the western wall of a structure located at 280 W. Second Street in the Pomona Arts Colony. (Liset Marquez/staff) Pomona Cultural Arts Commission and its advisory committee have identified the top artists it will call on as they look to spend nearly $1.5 million in public art fees the city has collected throughout the years. The committee and commissioners are moving swiftly to start utilizing those funds. At a Monday meeting, they also agreed to seek those artists’ proposals for two future murals — one at the Pomona Public Library, the other in the Pomona Arts Colony — making them the third and fourth murals approved this year. The latter two will be funded through the city’s art fee fund. “There are a lot of moving pieces, but we’re keeping our promise to move this fast as possible, to be able to use some of those dollars,” Anita Gutierrez, development services director for Pomona, said Monday at the Pomona Cultural Arts Citizens Advisory Committee.
