Toronto travel: Must-visit coffee shops, cocktail bars and art galleries

The Good Son’s Fourteen Bones cocktail. Some people shop in other cities. Some run marathons or visit kitschy tourist attractions. We recently gave ourselves a different kind of travel challenge: How many coffee shops, cocktail bars and art galleries could we visit during a three-day visit to Toronto? Quite a few, it turns out. To start our adventure, we stay at the Omni King Edward Hotel , a luxurious choice with incredible history. Ernest Hemingway — whose cocktails of choice included daiquiris, martinis, mojitos, you name it — lived in the hotel for a short time; Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis Presley and the Beatles stayed here, too. And so did John Lennon and Yoko Ono, who staged their famous bed-in for peace at the King Edward in 1969. As well-appointed as our room is, however, we’re not staying in. There’s too much to see and do, starting with a quick drink at The Consort , the bar on the main floor. It’s sleek, quiet and romantic here, and we could stay all night.
